The activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked the police in the city's Uttara Model Town area and vandalised a number of vehicles on Saturday.
The violence broke out in the afternoon as the police intercepted a procession brought out by the right wing political group, which is out to thwart the trials of crimes against humanity.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Nisharul Arif told bdnews24.com that the unruly Jamaat-Shibir activists hurled brick chips at the police.
The law enforcers replied by firing teargas and rubber bullets while charged with batons to disperse the stone-throwing activists.
Police detained several demonstrators raiding the surrounding areas.
On Nov 5, over 100 people, including several police officials, were injured when the activists of Jamaat and Shibir had fought a pitched battle with them in the city's Motijheel area. The Jamaat activists had also torched eight vehicles and motorcycles during the clash.

The party seeks freedom of its top leaders facing trial for alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
The government says the Jamaat and Shibir have resorted to attack the police to create anarchy and hinder the ongoing war crimes trial, while the Jamaat leaders claim that the police are preventing them from holding their peaceful protests.
Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir had earlier said that at least 2,500 Jamaat leaders and activists were arrested across the country for their involvement in violence.
