A Kingfisher spokesman would not comment.<br /><br />The company's steep decline underlined the problems of operating in India's airline sector, where players grappling with rising fuel costs face aggressive pricing caused by overcapacity.<br /><br />Mallya, a liquor baron who owns a Formula 1 motor-racing team, is famous for lavish parties at his $16 million beachside villa in Goa and also his company's annual swimsuit calendar.<br /><br />The licence suspension, until further notice, was announced by Arun Mishra, director general of Civil Aviation.<br /><br />The move had been widely expected after Kingfisher failed to respond properly to queries from the regulator regarding its ability to provide a "safe, efficient and reliable service".<br /><br />"The writing is on the wall," Amber Dubey, director, aerospace and defence at KPMG India, told the ET Now television channel. JICA joins bid to supply arsenic-free water

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">News-Paper24.blogspot.com</span></span><br />  <span style="font-size: large;">Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Thursday tied up with local government institutions to ensure safe drinking water in an arsenic-prone district.<br /><br />The project has been launched as thousands of people are drinking arsenic-contaminated water in Bangladesh, but intervention to mitigate the contamination is said to have slowed down in recent years.<br /><br />In a media statement, JICA said it will make a 'safe water supply plan' and prepare 'sustainable' model of arsenic mitigation activities at arsenic-prone Ashrafpur Union of Kachua Upazila under Chandpur district where the main water source shallow tube-well has not been tested since 2005.<br /><br />A JICA survey shows there are alternative devices to pump arsenic contamination-free water in that union, 'but those remained inactive and users committees are not repairing them.'<br /><br />They will make an arsenic contamination map, and safe water device location map with GIS technology.<br /><br />Under the project, they will also build capacities of union parishad personnel to mitigate the arsenic contamination and raise awareness in the community level.<br /><br />The project will also support the Union Parishad's users committees in maintaining water devices after construction.<br /><br />Additional Secretary to Local Government and Cooperatives Zuena Aziz extolled the endeavour at a seminar on Thursday in Dhaka where details of the project were disseminated among stakeholders.<br /><br />According to the media statement, speakers at the seminar agreed that activities "to mitigate arsenic contamination has slowed down in recent years, so the risk is growing higher."<br /><br />It is estimated that about 30 million people of 270 upazilas are exposed to arsenic-contaminated water in Bangladesh where 0.05 mg/L arsenic level in water is considered safe.<br /><br />In 2011, around 57,000 patients were identified to be suffering from arsenic-related diseases.<br /><br />JICA says it has provided the water supply sector with more than $ 500 million in assistance and 30 million people are being benefited in the last 40 years of cooperation.</span><br /> <span style="color: red;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"> - The Latest News @2012 </span></span></div>

"Her father-in-law said you would not get property since your child does not understand value of assets.<br /><br />"She cannot go to the court as autistic children are not legally entitled to property."<br /><br />Sometimes, even the father is reluctant to spend extra on his autistic child. "A mother came to us and said 'Please keep this whatever money I have for my kid and give him when I am no more in the world'."<br /><br />"This bank account will now help them," Danny said, "It's a dual account." "Two signatories will run the account – one is the kid and the other is the parent. There is a provision to replace the second one, if the parent dies."<br /><br />"We did it in a way so that the security of banking transaction is not compromised."<br /><br />Danny said talks were underway to ensure more banking services like deposit pension scheme for the children with special needs.<br /><br />She said the Mutual Trust Bank also extended financial support of Tk 0.5 million to the Parents Forum to carry out its activities.<br /><br />The global conference on autism in Dhaka last year, that brought top politicians including ruling India Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi, inspired parents with autistic children to unite under the Forum.<br /><br />A developmental disorder, autism robs one's communication and behavioural skills. Japan's Softbank snaps up Sprint in $20 billion deal

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <span style="color: red;"><u><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">News-Paper24.blogspot.com</span></span></u></span> <span style="font-size: x-large;"><b><u><span style="color: red;"> </span></u></b></span><br /> <span style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="color: red;"><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Japanese mobile operator Softbank Corp said it will buy about 70 percent of Sprint Nextel Corp, the third-largest US carrier, for $20.1 billion - the most a Japanese firm has spent on an overseas acquisition.<br /><br />The deal, announced by Softbank's billionaire founder and chief Masayoshi Son and Sprint Chief Executive Dan Hesse at a packed news conference in Tokyo on Monday, gives Softbank entry into a US market that is still growing, while Japan's market is stagnating.<br /><br />Part of the deal is a direct infusion of billions of dollars into Sprint, giving it the firepower to buy peers and build out its 4G network to compete in a market dominated by AT&T Inc and Verizon Wireless.<br /><br />Shares in one of those potential targets, Clearwire Corp, surged 35 cents to $2.67 near midday. Sprint owns 48 percent of Clearwire. While Softbank said no action was required, most analysts and investors see a Sprint-Clearwire tie-up as an inevitable consequence of the Softbank deal.<br /><br />One way or another, analysts have long said the US telecommunications industry needs to consolidate, but few looked to Japan as a catalyst. Some investors and rating agencies worried that Softbank is biting off more than it can chew.<br /><br />But the 55-year-old Son, a rare risk-taker in Japan's often cautious business circles, is betting US growth can offer relief from cut-throat competition in Japan's saturated mobile market. Combined, Softbank and Sprint will have 96 million users.<br /><br />"It could be safe if you do nothing, and our challenge in the US is not going to be easy at all. We must enter a new market, one with a different culture, and we must start again from zero after all we have built," Son told the news conference.<br /><br />"But not taking this challenge will be a bigger risk."<br /><br />FIREPOWER<br /><br />The financing is complex, involving at least three steps with two entities as well as a debt conversion.<br /><br />Softbank's newly created US subsidiary New Sprint will buy $3.1 billion in old Sprint convertible bonds to start. After shareholders and regulators approve the proposed deal, Softbank will then buy $4.9 billion in New Sprint shares. The two steps together represent the $8 billion infusion directly into Sprint.<br /><br />On top of that, 55 percent of existing Sprint shares would be exchanged for $7.30 per share in cash, representing a further $12.1 billion.<br /><br />The transactions are to be completed by mid-2013, at which point New Sprint will be a publicly traded company and the old Sprint will survive as its subsidiary.<br /><br />Sprint added 2 cents to $5.75 near midday after surging last week on the first reports of a pending deal. The offer, while a substantial premium, is still less than some observers had hoped. A fund manager at T. Rowe Price, a top-15 Sprint shareholder, told Reuters last week he thought Sprint would be worth $10 a share in 18 months.<br /><br />Hesse, who will stay on as Sprint CEO, said the Softbank investment would give Sprint opportunities it hadn't had since he joined the firm in late-2007, and enable the US firm to play a bigger role in future market consolidation.<br /><br />"This is pro-competitive and pro-consumer in the US because it creates a stronger No. 3 ... it competes with the duopoly of AT&T and Verizon. When you look at what Softbank has accomplished in Japan with the No. 3 carrier, it's something we can learn from," he said.<br /><br />Hesse, one of the few corporate CEOs in America to star in his own company's commercials, also acknowledged the financial challenges Sprint has faced - which the new capital could fix quickly.<br /><br />"Sprint has been engaged in turnaround since 2008. We have been at a disadvantage due to our debt," he said on an investor call Monday morning.<br /><br />But it was not all serious, as the American took some time for a bit of levity with his Asian counterparts. At the press conference, Hesse noted it was the first time he had seen his long-time acquaintance Son with a tie on.<br /><br />SOFTBANK WEAKENS<br /><br />Softbank shares tumbled more than 8 percent on Monday before closing down 5.3 percent to their lowest finish in five months. The stock has lost more than one-fifth of its value - or $8.7 billion - since news first surfaced late last week about its interest in Sprint.<br /><br />On Monday, credit rating agency Moody's said it was reviewing Softbank's ratings for a possible downgrade, but some analysts said Son's gamble might pay off in the end.<br /><br />"It's the same (market) reaction as when Softbank said it was going to buy Vodafone a few years ago. Everyone came out and said it was far too expensive," Fumiyuki Nakanishi, general manager of investment and research at SMBC Friend Securities, said ahead of the announcement.<br /><br />Softbank bought Vodafone's Japan unit for $15.5 billion in 2006.<br /><br />"Son made a company worth 3 trillion yen, and now it will be worth 6 trillion yen. That's quite impressive, and I think investors will realize he's making the right decision down the road," said Nakanishi.<br /><br />Four banks - Mizuho Financial Group Inc, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial GroupM and Deutsche Bank - have approved loans totaling 1.65 trillion yen ($21.1 billion) to Softbank, three sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.<br /><br />Sprint, which has lost money in its last 19 quarters, has net debt of about $15 billion, while Softbank has net debt of about $10 billion.<br /><br />Brokers have warned the deal could leave Softbank with "unacceptably high" gearing - a ratio of debt to shareholder capital.<br /><br />Standard & Poor's has warned the deal "may undermine Softbank's financial risk profile" and pressure its free operating cash flow for the next few years.<br /><br />Reflecting the concerns, Softbank's 5-year credit default swap spreads - the cost of protecting its debt against default - widened to 267/327 basis points from around 160 basis points before the deal, and yields on its yen bonds have risen sharply.<br /><br />NO CLEARWIRE OBLIGATION<br /><br />Analysts have said the Softbank acquisition of 70 percent of Sprint for $20 billion would imply the No. 3 U.S. wireless company is worth about $28.6 billion, some two-thirds more than its market capitalization at Friday's close.<br /><br />Sprint is going through a $7 billion upgrade of one of its networks, while closing its Nextel iDen network, which makes Softbank's capital especially useful. But the Clearwire question looms large as well.<br /><br />Macquarie analyst Kevin Smithen, in a note to clients, described Softbank as the "white knight" that could give Clearwire management and investors a successful exit, though he also warned the company may drive a hard bargain in negotiations.<br /><br />An alliance with Sprint could also give Softbank leverage when dealing with Apple Inc, helping bolster its domestic position against KDDI Corp, which also offers the iPhone in Japan, and market leader NTT Docomo, which has yet to offer the Apple smartphone.<br /><br />With Sprint in hand, Softbank may also look to acquire smaller US carrier MetroPCS Communications Inc, Japanese media have reported.<br /><br />Sprint has long had an interest in MetroPCS, which earlier this month agreed to merge with T-Mobile USA, part of Deutsche Telekom AG.<br /><br />The Sprint deal takes outbound deals by Japanese firms to a record $75 billion this year, according to Thomson Reuters data, underscoring a strong appetite for overseas assets seemingly unaffected by signs of slowing global growth.<br /><br />This is not the first Japanese foray into telecoms overseas. Other scientists praised the achievements as bringing to life the wildest dreams of science fiction.<br /><br />"The Nobel laureates have opened the door to a new era of experimentation with quantum physics by demonstrating the direct observation of individual quantum particles without destroying them," said the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which awarded them the 8 million crown ($1.2 million) Nobel Prize in Physics.<br /><br />"Perhaps the quantum computer will change our everyday lives in this century in the same radical way as the classical computer did in the last century."<br /><br />Haroche said he was walking in the street with his wife when he recognised the Swedish country code on the incoming call to inform him of the award.<br /><br />"I saw the area code 46, then I sat down," he told reporters in Sweden by telephone. "First I called my children, then I called my closest colleagues, without whom I would never have won this prize," he said. Asked how he would celebrate, he said: "I will have champagne, of course."<br /><br />He told Reuters he hoped the prize would give him a platform "that will allow me to communicate ideas, not just in this field of research but for research in general, fundamental research".<br /><br />Physics is the second of this year's crop of awards; scientists from Britain and Japan shared the first prize on Monday, in medicine, for adult stem cell research. The prizes, which reward achievements in science, literature and peace, were first awarded in 1901 in accordance with the will of Swedish dynamite millionaire Alfred Nobel.<br /><br />WEIRDER ASPECTS<br /><br />"This year's Nobel Prize recognises some of the most incredible experimental tests of the weirder aspects of quantum mechanics," said Jim Al-Khalili, professor of physics at the University of Surrey in Britain.<br /><br />"Until the last decade or two, some of these results were nothing more than ideas in science fiction or, at best, the wilder imaginations of quantum physicists. Wineland and Haroche and their teams have shown just how strange the quantum world really is and opened up the potential for new technologies undreamt of not so long ago."<br /><br />Quantum physics studies the behavior of the fundamental building blocks of the universe at a scale smaller than atoms, when tiny particles act in strange ways that can only be described with advanced mathematics.<br /><br />Researchers have long dreamt of building "quantum computers" that would operate using that mathematics - able to conduct far more complicated calculations and hold vastly more data than classical computers. But they could only be built if the behavior of individual particles could be observed.<br /><br />"Single particles are not easily isolated from their surrounding environment, and they lose their mysterious quantum properties as soon as they interact with the outside world," the Nobel committee explained.<br /><br />"Through their ingenious laboratory methods Haroche and Wineland, together with their research groups, have managed to measure and control very fragile quantum states, which were previously thought inaccessible for direct observation. The new methods allow them to examine, control and count the particles."<br /><br />Both scientists work in the field of quantum optics, studying the fundamental interactions between light and matter. The Nobel committee said they used opposite approaches to the same problem: Wineland uses light particles - or photons - to measure and control particles of matter - electrons - while Haroche uses electrons to control and measure photons.<br /><br />In one of the strange properties of quantum mechanics, tiny particles act as if they are simultaneously in two locations, based on the likelihood that they would be found at either, known as a "superposition".<br /><br />It was long thought that it would be impossible to demonstrate this in a lab. But Wineland's "parlor trick" was to hit an atom with laser light, which according to quantum theory would have a 50 percent chance of moving it, and observe the atom at two different locations, 80 billionths of a meter apart.<br /><br />In a normal computer, a switch must either be on or off. A quantum computer would work with switches that, like the particles in Wineland's experiment, behaved as if they were in more than one position at the same time.<br /><br />An example is a computer trying to work out the shortest route around town for a travelling salesman. They could transform medicine by regenerating tissue for diseases ranging from blindness to Parkinson's disease.<br /><br />Creating embryo-like stem cells without destroying embryos gets round a key controversy by avoiding the need to process embryos left over at fertility clinics - a system that has led to political objections in the United States and elsewhere.<br /><br />Reprogrammed cells - known as induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells - offer an ethically neutral alternative. They have been a source of intense research since Yamanaka discovered their potential in 2006, building on work that Gurdon did in frogs and tadpoles 40 years earlier.<br /><br />SAFETY CONCERNS<br /><br />Recently, however, different research groups have noticed problems with iPS cells, suggesting they may not be as good as embryonic ones. In one study, iPS cells died more quickly and another found multiple genetic mutations, raising concerns that they could cause tumours.<br /><br />Despite this, Japanese researchers hope to test iPS cells in clinical trials for a form of blindness as early as next year - catching up with recent successful eye trials using embryonic stem cells.<br /><br />Researchers in the West are generally more wary.<br /><br />"There is a bit of a divergence between Japan and the rest of the world on this," Chris Mason, professor of regenerative medicine at University College London, told Reuters.<br /><br />"Scientists in Japan are trying to move very rapidly towards clinical trials of iPS cells, whereas many of us still feel there are a lot of issues to overcome, especially in terms of safety."<br /><br />The future potential for reprogrammed cells is that they could be taken from sick people who could have their own "person specific cell replacement" to mend damaged organs or tissues.<br /><br />But key worries include the fact that iPS technology involves using genes which could also be tumour-inducing in some circumstances and that other as-yet undetected problems might crop up after the new cells have been put into patients.<br /><br />Gurdon played down such worries and said regulatory authorities and governments should take a step back and let patients assess the potential benefits and risks for themselves.<br /><br />"If you explain to a patient what can be done, and what might be the downside - then you should let the patient choose. Don't have ethicists or ... doctors or whoever say you may or may not have replacement cells," he told reporters.<br /><br />DRUG DISCOVERY TOOL<br /><br />Experts agreed that the pioneering work by the two new Nobel laureates had changed the field of stem cell research.<br /><br />"What's grand in this discovery is that these specialised mature cells can rewind in their development and become stem cells," said Urban Lendahl, chairman of the Nobel awards committee.<br /><br />Still, many experts believe the true promise of iPS cells is as unique research tools, rather than necessarily forming the basis of new medical therapies.<br /><br />They have a key advantage over embryonic stem cells in that researchers can take them from people with a known disease, offering a window into how currently incurable illnesses develop at the cellular level.<br /><br />Already, researchers have made iPS cells from patients with Gaucher's disease, Down Syndrome, Parkinson's and diabetes.<br /><br />"I see iPS cells more for use in drug discovery and in understanding the mechanism of different diseases, rather than therapy," said Dusko Ilic, a senior lecturer in stem cell science at King's College London.<br /><br />Traditionally, researchers have used stand-ins for human tissue such as yeast, flies or mice for their drug research. "It's a new milestone in the telecom sector of the country."<br /><br />The third generation means it comes after GPRS and EDGE. The advantages of 3G services include faster data connectivity which means one can download faster and web surfing will be a lot more fun.<br /><br />It will give uninterrupted video streaming on phones, enable video calls and big MMS and be good for data intensive applications.<br /><br />The programme was told that the new technology will ease high speed exchange of information and enable individuals to hold video conferences at distant places and help traffic police avoid the unwanted jam by observing movement of vehicles.<br /><br />Along with helping distance learning, it will also open up a vast array of entertainment options too. Both mobile sets of the caller and receiver have to support 3G SIM cards if they wish to have avail themselves of service.<br /><br />The video calls, which will have a 10-second pulse, will cost Tk 2 per minute with a Teletalk SIM card.<br /><br />Also, users will be able to see television channels –state-run BTV, GTV, RTV, Somoy TV and MyTV.<br /><br />The sale of 3G SIMs was supposed to begin from Sunday. But TeleTalk authorities will be sure about the identities of the subscribers before approving the SIM use. They will start contacting those who have registered at the 'Gravity Club' in the last few months.<br /><br />The SIMs will be available at TeleTalk's eight customer care centres and 3,000 retailers in the capital. The service will also be launched in Chittagong within this year.<br /><br />Post and Telecommunications Secretary Sunil Kanti Bose said policies were being finalised so that the service can be launched across the country. "Private operators will also be given licence for this."<br /><br />Prime Minister's son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed, an information technology expert, was also present at the function.<br /><br />He said: "Many had questioned how developed technologies will reach the rural areas when this government had begun its Digital Bangladesh programme. And he did so on the 65th anniversary of legendary American pilot Chuck Yeager's flight shattering the sound barrier on October 14, 1947.<br /><br />Utley said preliminary figures indicate Baumgartner broke a total of three established world records, including the highest altitude skydive, longest freefall without a parachute and fastest fall achieved during a skydive.<br /><br />Baumgartner landed safely on the ground and raised his arms in a victory salute just 10 minutes after he stepped into the air. Soon he was hugged by his mother and father, who took their first trip outside Europe to see his historic plunge, and his girlfriend jumped up and wrapped her legs around him.<br /><br />"It was way harder than I expected," Baumgartner said. Others accept that Earth's climate is changing, but discount a human cause. Still others, including Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, accept the idea of climate change, but maintain the science is inconclusive.<br /><br />The science of climate change prediction is dependent in part on complex computer models that take into account multiple factors that influence Earth's climate, including the level of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.<br /><br />Many such models have forecast the globally averaged temperature will rise by 3.6 degrees F (2 degrees C) this century if greenhouse emissions continue at current levels.<br /><br />Recent global temperature increases support these predictions. On Monday, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that September 2012 was tied for the warmest month on Earth in the modern record, and was the 331st consecutive month above the 20th century average.<br /><br />MODELING MARTIAN SNOWS<br /><br />Hartmann, a senior scientist at the nonprofit Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, said he and his team confirmed the earthly computer models' effectiveness by using them to forecast conditions on Mars.<br /><br />New satellite observations of glaciers, ice flows and other features on the red planet showed that the models' predictions corresponded with what was on the Martian surface, Hartmann said in a telephone interview.<br /><br />One key difference between Earth and Mars is their tilt, he said. Earth's axis is fixed, with very small variations, at 23.5 degrees, held steady by the gravitational pull of our moon. This tilt is responsible for changing seasons as Earth moves through the year, alternately tipping its northern and southern hemispheres toward the sun.<br /><br />Mars lacks a big moon to stabilize its tilt, and its rotational axis can vary as much as 70 degrees toward the sun. When that happens, polar ice evaporates and puts moisture into the Martian atmosphere, which dumps snow, ice and ultimately glaciers in Mars' mid-latitudes. The last time this happened, astronomers say, was between 5 million and 20 million years ago.<br /><br />Factoring in the planet's varying tilt, topography, atmosphere and other information, the climate models forecast specific regions for massive snowfalls, and the remnants of those snowfalls are right there, Hartmann said. So are ice flows and other features, viewed by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.<br /><br />"We do have a lot of public figures, in our country particularly, saying that the global climate modeling studies have very little value," Hartmann said. "If the global climate modeling people can run these models on Mars and we actually see things that come out of the model on another planet, then the climate modeling people must be doing something right."</span></span></div>

Belonging to a species called the Proterochersis robusta, it roamed the Earth at the same time as the dinosaurs.<br /><br />After cutting through the debris, Palaeontologist Doctor Tomasz Sulej hopes to reveal answers to important questions about the turtle's evolution, fleshing out what they already know.<br /><br />He said, "We date it as two hundred and fifteen million years ago. And we know it because in the rock, in the sediments, people from another institute found palynomorphs very characteristic of the Norian age....a period when the dinosaurs began living in the world."<br /><br />The team also discovered a second set of remains in southern Poland, which they believe belong to a previously unknown species. Both discoveries could be of evolutionary significance, helping bridge the gap between primitive reptiles and turtles.<br /><br />Sulej said, "In studying the evolution of the turtle we still don't know from which group of animals they derived. The animal which is probably the intermediate between the reptiles, the primitive reptiles and turtles was found in China."<br /><br />Celebrated Polish palynologist at Polish Geological Institute Barbara Slodkowska also helped date various findings by studying sediment in Poreba town's fossil-rich soil and says pollen analysis is crucial to understanding both recent finds.<br /><br />Slodkowska said, "There is one specific feature of the pollen. When the remains of something like this turtle end up in a basin of water the sludge will build up around the remains. So the only way this type of pollen record can be preserved is in water."<br /><br />"The pollen cannot be exposed to oxygen or it will start to disintegrate. This is why these fossils must have been covered in some kind of water basin."<br /><br />Sulej and his colleagues hope their analysis can pinpoint the moment at which turtles developed from their primitive cousins.<br /><br />And with more digging their hoping for more discoveries.</span></span></b></div>

If he asks us for legal help, we will provide it."<br /><br />"We have been given the copy of Nafis' passport. We are now confirmed that he is a Bangladeshi citizen.<br /><br />"We are determined to provide him with the civil rights he is entitled to. We have also confirmed the matter to Deputy Assistant Attorney General Bruce Swartz (also the Department of Justice's Counselor for<br />International Affairs)," the Ambassador added.<br /><br />Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes around 1am Saturday had told bdnews24.com that Bangladesh embassy officials have asked for consular access during the parley with the officials of the State Department and Justice Department.<br /><br />The meeting was held at the Department of Justice in Washington at around 11:00pm Bangladesh Standard Time (Washington time 1pm noon).<br /><br />Ambassador Qader said, "If it is proven in the trial that Nafis genuinely wanted to carry out a terrorist attack in the United States, we will accept the punishment he is handed down."<br /><br />He also asked the State Department and Justice Department officials not to show any hostile attitude towards the other Bangladeshi expatriates in the US because of one individual's action.<br /><br />They assured the Bangladeshi officials that there was no need to show that kind of attitude towards the other Bangladeshi-Americans only because of Nafis, Qader added.<br /><br />The charges against Nafis, the son of a middle-class family, have received heavy media coverage and the accusations of terrorism have also threatened to undermine the country's reputation as a moderate Muslim nation. Bangladesh is not typically a hotbed of terrorist activity, although one native of the nation was held by the US at Guantanamo Bay, according to American media.<br /><br />The Foreign Secretary had said earlier, "I have not received the full report on the meeting until now (1am Saturday). I will be able to brief tomorrow (Saturday) if I get the copy within the night."<br /><br />Earlier, at a press briefing on Friday, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni had said, "It is a serious matter and I will not speak until I get feedback from our US mission."<br /><br />"If we cannot have a formal press conference, me or the Foreign Secretary will convey the latest situation or issue a press release," she had said.<br /><br />New York police and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials arrested Nafis on Wednesday morning in downtown Manhattan after he allegedly attempted to detonate what he believed to be a 1,000-pound bomb at the New York Federal Reserve Bank on Liberty Street in lower Manhattan's financial district.<br /><br />The FBI said Nafis parked a van laden with 'explosives' in front of the bank in Manhattan and went to the adjacent Millennium Hilton Hotel. From there, he repeatedly tried to set off the mobile phone detonator of the bomb. However, it did not explode as the explosive was fake.<br /><br />The Department of Justice said in a statement on Wednesday Nafis had been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and provide material support to al Qaeda. He faces life sentence in prison, if convicted.<br /><br />Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN AK Momen had earlier told bdnews24.com, "Even if Nafis is a Bangladeshi, it is a separate story. The people and the government of Bangladesh do not believe in terrorism."<br /><br />Bangladeshi police detectives on Thursday had raided the 107/4, North Jatrabari residence of Nafis's parents and questioned his family members.<br /><br />Family members said Nafis was a student of the North South University and before that he had studied in the Dhaka College. He went to the US on January on student visa to study cyber-security at the Southeast Missouri State University.<br /><br />Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Masudur Rahman told bdnews24.com on Friday night that the Nafis' family were under watch.</span></span></b></div>
